Submitting Your Articles
My favorite traffic generation tool is articles, they have really worked well for me and once a good article is created it will carry on generating traffic for your site over and over again. They are easy to create and submitting your article is also straight forward, then you can forget about them and let them do their work.
We have two types of articles that we can write as a website owner, the article we place on our site (such as this one) and the off site articles we submit to article directories. So the first one we are doing on a regular basis, but we should also try and submit regular articles to the directories. How this generates traffic is in a few ways.
- We can add links in our articles back to our website, so when someone is reading the article they can click on the links and they get directed to our site.
- Other webmasters can take our articles and post them on their own sites, but they have to leave our links and author name intact, this means that their traffic now becomes potential traffic for our site as people on their site can click our links and come straight to our site.
- Because most article directories are liked by the search engines they have a good page ranking and this means that our articles can get listed in the likes of Google quite easily, so you may find that although your actual site may be struggling to get to the top spot, your off site articles may rank near or at the top for the keyword you are targeting. This can bring in a good amount of traffic to your site.
So as you can see submitting good quality articles to these directories can have a dramatic result on your website traffic. I have had great results with this method of traffic generation, but you have to be consistent. I was initially told that if I submitted two or three articles per website that would be enough, well I have found that was no where near enough. I have as many as sixty to seventy articles placed at different directories and that will rise as I will carry on submitting new articles as and when I get time.
If I start a new website, I will spend the first month submitting an article everyday that links back to my site, this tends to get the site off to a good start. In the second month and further, I try and submit at least one article per week and two if I get the time. Each article is creating two backlinks to my site and at least a few of those articles get published on other sites, plus I get good rankings with a lot of the articles.
This method has been a very effective traffic generation technique, but I have found that it does work better on some sites than others, but they all get some traffic from it.
